Part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) or federal stimulus. The U.S. Department of Education can allocate up to $650 million nationwide in one-time competitive grants to local education agencies such as school districts as well as to public-private partnerships. The funds are meant to support the exploration of promising ideas and the expansion of proven ones.
