Data Analyst

EdSource is seeking a part-time data analyst to analyze state and federal education data.

The successful applicant will analyze education data as needed for reports and shorter online posts. This is an opportunity to be part of a small but dynamic team of researchers and reporters developing new strategies for engaging Californians in the range of crises facing public education at all levels in the state and nationally.

EdSource is a highly regarded organization founded in 1977 providing impartial reports on California education for policymakers, media organizations, and the California public. 

We are seeking individuals who have:

  • Experience analyzing state and federal education data
  • Knowledge of California and national public education data sources
  • Basic understanding of the California school system and school reporting requirements; and of factors and issues related to validity, reliability, and accuracy of different types of school data
  • Proficiency in using analytical tools and instruments such as Excel, Microsoft Access, SPSS, SQL
  • Solid interpersonal and verbal communications skills to work with agency staff as well as with data staff at public and private research agencies
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of basic mapping techniques
  • Communications/visual ability to recommend and generate useful and meaningful graphs and tables from data a strong plus

The successful applicant will work on a consultant basis.

EdSource's main office is in Mountain View, CA, but applicants may be able to work independently by staying in close online and telephone contact with senior EdSource staff.
