Comparing Scores on California Standards Tests (CSTs) in English Language Arts Over Time

April 2011

Under California's accountability system, the goal is for students to score proficient or advanced on California Standards Tests (CSTs) in English language arts. These tests, based on the state's academic content standards, are administered each spring as part of the state's Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program.

Over time, students in every grade have improved on the CSTs. In 2010, the overall gains were somewhat more modest.
