Student Achievement on the Mathematics CSTs for Grades 2–7, 2007–2010

February 2011

California students take grade-level California Standards Tests (CSTs) in mathematics in each of grades 2-7. These tests are aligned with the academic content standards adopted by the state in 1997 for these grade levels. For all six tests, the percentage of California students scoring proficient or advanced was higher in 2010 than in 2007.

Percent of students scoring proficient or advanced on grades 2-7 math CSTs over time

* This chart only shows student achievement on grade-level CSTs in math in grades 2-7. Note, however, that since 2007 7th graders who are positioned to complete a full Algebra I course have taken the Algebra I CST instead of the Grade 7 Mathematics CST; in 2010, 7% of California 7th graders took the Algebra I CST. Such students are excluded from consideration above.
