Student Participation and Achievement on End-of-course Science CSTs in High School, in 2010

February 2011

In high school, California students take different science CSTs depending on the courses in which they are enrolled, with the exception of the Grade 10 Life Science CST taken by all 10th graders (not shown below). California does not prescribe a specific order in which high school students should take these courses, and local placements into college-preparatory science courses may depend in part on student achievement and course-taking in mathematics.

The table below shows the proportion of students in each grade that took each end-of-course Science CST in 2010, and the percentage of these students who scored proficient or advanced when they did so.

Percent of students scoring proficient or advanced on end-of-year science CSTs in 2010
