The Power of Data: What California Needs and Why

Speakers:

  • Presenter: Jay Pfeiffer, Deputy Commissioner, Division of Accountability, Research & Measurement, Florida Department of Education, describes Florida's education data system, how it meets the standards of the national Data Quality Campaign, and what it took for Florida to put its data system into place.
  • Interviewer/moderator: Joel Montero, CEO, California Fiscal Crisis & Management Assistance Team (FCMAT), moderates the presentations and questions from the audience.
  • Discussant: Gavin Payne, Chief Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction, California Department of Education, describes a newly announced project by the California Department of Education and McKinsey and Company to develop a white paper for the governor with recommendations for making California's student data system one of the nation's best.
